I shall never forget how upon moving to Italy my parents told me that I lived in the middle of nowhere. Finally.
Emptiness.
Where are you?
When will you return?
I turn my back
when they arrive
and run home
to emerging
nothingness
when they start
to depart.
Best of both worlds.
The views are of the Silver Coast in Tuscany, more precisely, Monte Argentario peninsula, where I roamed with my travelling uncle earlier this month when he dispatched me back home after two months in Slovenia, my land of origin.
If I invite you, you are not the pest. Welcome.
This is how I like it: my small pack with a visitor or two and nobody around for miles.
Monte Argentario peninsula is full of sights like this one.
So far, only my uncle in sight. But we know it’s not for long. It’s early September, they are still here.
The view down into the greens and blues.
Here they are. Happy pest bathing. (Nahh, I’m being too harsh. I love people.)
One would hope they won’t venture on the rocks.
The water is lovely, access is hard.
This rocky “beach” is called Mar Morto because the rocks provide a shelter.
So that in this little cove the sea is really dead calm which pleases the pest. Who told me that Italians only tolerate sandy beaches, which is why I chose this rocky outpost?
On the lookout for another of the peninsula’s 17 beaches.
So pretty. Makes you want to be a boat.
If you’re a car, you do NOT try to connect Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano in a neat little circle. There is a 4 km of narrow stoned strip. Bestia is not relaxed but he trusts the driver. She drove all over Crete for a month on “roads” exactly like this one. Could even take this photo. 😉
Look at the blue doors on that house!
To the second chosen one: beach L’Acqua Dolce near the uber fancy hotel Il Pellicano.
The trail is lovely and takes no longer than 15 minutes.
Promises of the beauty to come.
But there they are again! Plus it’s hot and no shade.
I know, bestia. I’d prefer you could run free too.
After a short swim we are off again.
It’s a pretty spot. Next time: umbrella, or even better, wait for October and back to emptiness.
In response to Patrick Jennings’ Pic and a Word Challenge #153: Emptiness
Wow – even where it is rocky, people will seek water to cool off. Personally, I’m not a beach bunny. I need shade!!
The landscape is gorgeous. The steep rocky trails I could handle on foot, but driving that road – or any like it – would be pretty scary for me!!!

Thank you, Joanne. I admit it’s better to drive such roads myself than be in the car while another drives. 😀 As for beach bunny, I love the sea but don’t like the heat, especially frying on the towel. If bestia wished to swim with me, that would be ideal, but for some reason doesn’t wish to any more… Only wets his paws and then goes out.

It looks beautiful. In my view, being in the middle of nowhere is the same as being in the middle of everywhere.

Wait, but your parent said it like it was a bad thing? The middle of nowhere sounds just about perfect 🙂

Hi, Verne! They said it in an incredulous, concerned way. “How can you live in the only part of Italy without highway?” My mother needs people and action for survive. 🙂 As for me, nowhere is everywhere. 😉 I’ve seen that you posted. Will dedicate myself to the Azores most gladly shortly.

“Nowhere is everywhere”, magnificently put!
That Azores post has a hidden reference to Nuno Bettencourt, in your honour 🙂

There really aren’t that many tourists there! It didn’t look crowded. I would love to find a beach with so few people! Although I’m really not the layout at the beach and take swim sort anymore. I was as a kid, but the water is just too cold here for me as an adult and too many people!
I love those views and the color of the water!

Thank you, Deborah. This was in September, you should see it in the summer. 😉 I better don’t go there then, I don’t like crowds either. I should explore now, with no people around, but the weather is wet and murky.

Is the water warm? Sorry to hear it’s wet and murky. It’s chilly here. My heater has started coming on in the morning! Thankfully the afternoons have been warmer.

Oh yes, it’s very warm. Probably still is, should check. 🙂 We have our furnace on but only because amore is a freezing kind. 😉

I can relate to how Amore is feeling! It’s cold here in the mornings now.
Now a warm sea I’ll swim in or at least put my feet in it! I had my feet and calves in the sea while in FL. The water was lovely; not too cold or warm.
