Lens-Artists PC: Ljubljana, newyorked

I’ve just returned from two days in this October city. It was Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, not New York, but here is a gallery of photos that could also be from there. If you believe it.

I only spent two full days in my city of origin this time and it took me 18 hours there and 18 back but it was so worth it. Now that I’m back I feel as if I was dreaming it all. The dream was so vivid that I could even take photos.

New York is still waiting for me but my sister has been and she will be the judge if these scenes from our lovely Saturday walk around Ljubljana remind her of it.

It looked so pretty and only later I realised that this was the first time in the five years since I’d moved to Italy that I saw my city in the autumn colour scheme again. Before it was always either summer or winter. Spring is still waiting.

But first, before I show you the photos, here are a couple of quotations to slide into New York state of mind.

Here is my somewhere else with a sinister twist.

Central Park, I mean park Tivoli boasts a display of works by Slovenian painters from the National Gallery that is close by.

Sister passes Drama Theatre.

I love her and here too.

It might be that in New York this kind of writing would be immediately removed. Especially the answer in green.

Ljubljana twins still stand.

I don’t think Roman ruins can be found in New York.

Figovec, managed by Slovenian House, is a Slovenian eatery with a lovely green garden. Look at the cheeky sparrows.

From the top of the new Hotel InterContinental, the highest building in the city with 20 floors. So not New York.

The prices are about right though.

And what is this?

Something sinister lurking.

Here comes little Johnny!

Where did he vanish? Where have the trees gone?
