An afternoon in Italy in late September. All one could want from life, really.
I met my visitors in Orvieto, Umbria, and then we went to Bolsena by the lake (in Lazio), the town where I haven’t strolled yet. It was a great place for the golden hour, but then – they all are.
As for looking up – you will do that a lot in Italy. There are beasties in the architecture, plants growing out of heads and even just the sky is that killer shade of blue which mother once wanted for her bedroom curtains. It goes well with everything.
And all this was just Day One.
More in the captions.
In Orvieto the cathedral suddenly bumps into you, or you into it.
Above the cathedral door.
A first couple of beasties.
And this is what exactly? Looks like something from a vampire movie.
Whereas these two are a couple of Canadians.
The full house.
Orvieto is full of little nooks.
We stopped at the rest place with the belle vue of Orvieto. This is Banana-Joe and he has seen places.
Indiana Jones and his sidekick.
Then we stopped at Bolsena by the lake. Some parts of it were already in shade.
But even just an ordinary house looked splendid.
Some of it was half in shade, half in light. What exactly is this babe doing on top of this man?
But when you looked up, all worries drifted away.
Must be a light for Joey.
This head was particularly arresting.
The eyes were a bit droopy.
Another Bolsena flower child.
Good bye, Bolsena, the bird in flight and the yawning lady!

Thanks for the tour! One wonders what the beastie creators were thinking back in the day LOL!

I was going to comment on the glorious colour in your photos – but now I know it was because of the golden hour!
So much to love in this post, Manja, it was hard for me to pick a favourite. Although “Indiana Norm” is a great shot, the archway in Orvieta is a winner. Swoon!

Have them all, Joanne, no need to pick. 😉 These photos were taken (in more or less the same order) from 3.45 to 6.45 pm on a Friday afternoon. I guess on the last few sky shots the hour was really golden.

The nooked archway was my favorite! It was fun to see Banana Joe and his Sidekick too. It looks like you had a wonderful start to your visit together.

Lovely photos Manja! Is it still very warm in September? Not a cloud in the sky. Your banana joe is very lucky to be your travel companion. 😊

Hello, Jolene! Today is again very warm, almost 30 degrees C, after a couple of days of sock weather. It’s not my Banana Joe, but from my Canadian visitors. 😉 They must be safe back by now. Thank you!

I adore the planter heads, have always wanted one and still have my eye out for one. Hello to Indiana Jones!

Lovely, I could feel Italy in them… imagine myself taking a sunset stroll there too 🙂
But really, what is that statue babe doing???!

Wow, the creatures just about to step off the ledge gave me an eerie feeling, as if I was just about to step of a ledge. And in my case I don’t have wings!

You, and Italy, know how to show visitors a good time. There’s so much beauty in the details. I hope food and wine was involved as well. 🙂

That’s right, thank you, Draco! It was involved very much but we were smart and didn’t spoilt the fun by including cameras. 😉

“An afternoon in Italy in late September. All one could want from life, really.” I have to agree. I wouldn’t say no to curtains in that shade of blue either. Now I’ll have to drink some Italian wine as I bask in the sunshine of your photos.
