Pic and a Word #146: Clouds in my city

Greetings from Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The sky is changing all the time, which is how we like it. This way it is neither too hot nor too gloomy.

First the poem of how I knew I was no longer in Tuscany.

Clouds in my city

I saw the sky first.
I watched it suspiciously for a while
and then asked uncle:

“Ma… the sky here,
is it always like this?
Anything but blue?”

While he was nodding
I internally ascertained
that my wardrobe is lacking substance.

As if it heard me
the sky went from that to this
in a few days

and thoughtfully
left in specks of white
for all the photographers.

And now a selection of Ljubljana views with prominent sky which yesterday was especially changeling = challenging = changing.

  1. great sky-themed post and the variety was nice (even the fun relfection) and your words were fun:

    As if it heard me
the sky went from that to this

I felt that in the post

  2. Loved the perspective of the four columns. Looks like they’re planters at the top. Cobblers’ Bridge has some dramatic storm clouds. Changing skies are so interesting. 🙂

      1. YES gray. You don’t understand how bad the heat affects me. How red I am. Not sunburn, just rosacea. It burns under my skin. How hot. How miserable.

  3. You’re looking up at the clouds (which are indeed very nice!) and I’m looking for all the buildings I recognize from my two visits to Ljubljana! I do remember the changing skies, which make for wonderfully dramatic photos of the river, bridges, and buildings.

  4. I think the Vurnik house is amazing! Do you know anything of its history? But then all the photos are lovely to rest my eyes upon. And the changes in the sky a good pivot to hinge the story on.

    1. Thank you, Amanda! 🙂

Here’s what I found: The structure was finished in 1922 and is the product of architect Ivan Vurnik’s quest to find a distinctive Slovenian architectural style. The exterior of the building was originally painted by Vurnik’s wife, Helena, who incorporated the Slovenian tricolor with motifs of carnations and Slovenian landscapes into the house’s facade.

I can add that the popular name for it is The Indian Embassy. Not so very kind…

      1. That is so interesting, Manja. I am very enthusiastic about traditional art forms. I love that they are reflective of a country ‘s culture and floral traditions. I can see that some would connect it with Indian art forms, but I think it is quite unique and a good attraction for tourists to the town!

    1. Thanks, Fabrizio. To be honest, I had to look up its name, function and architect online as I was posting. I have never even entered it. Now I wonder if it’s as peculiar on the inside! As I say elsewhere, it’s been known by its street name: The Indian Embassy. Classy, I know. :p

  5. Ohh, I love Ljublana in your photos! Thank you for the tour 🙂 I even can feel its energy – Slavic connection, yeejj! Like it is Kiev but small and more to the South))) Now I really must visit to check if it’s true 😆

    1. Ahh, glad to hear this, Marina. 🙂 Ljubljana is a mix of Salzburg, Budapest, Trieste, Zagreb and Bratislava, to name but a few, just small. 😀 Adding Kiev to the mix right about now! I really hope you check it out one day! Thank you!

      1. Oh, the mix sounds just so right. I like Trieste and Budapest, and I lived a year in Salzburg area and really loved it (my own “sounds of music” story :)). I really hope now too. Always putting new things on my list :)))
