4th blogoversary of Mexi Movie

On this day four years ago I decided to break the silence and start my first blog.

I have filled two blogs since (here and here), this is my third, and I haven’t regretted it for a minute.

That first post four years ago was sad, that’s why I don’t wish to draw your attention to it. Instead I wish to link to seven other posts from the first Mexi Movie blog. Some of you may still remember the photo above which was its header photo.

If you read only these seven posts below, you will know more about me than I could ever have told you over a cup of coffee. There would have to be more than one. In fact, you would need to live around the corner, we would stroll by the sea and watch bestia jump on strangers if he could find any, and then we would have that coffee.

As you can see, imaginary friend, we would have a grand time.

But seeing that nobody lives around that corner, four years ago I started to reach out in this blogging way, to potentially numerous imaginary friends at once, and haven’t stopped since. And with time, some friends have become more and more real. Thank you for that.

Before I give you something to read, a little diagram of my earliest memories first posted here, a treasure-chest for any psychologist, I’m sure. Enjoy. 🙂

1. One of the first posts was about my Peugeots and is a good example of too much information. Not many people still read though, pheeew.

Cousin, Peugeot and pig for sister’s dirty 30 party.

(This story has 1000 words. I said to myself before starting it that I want a millennium and ended, without looking, at 999. I think I might have found my natural format of expression.)

((None of the photos or cars in the links are mine, just the colour and type are the same: forest green for 404, light yellow for 504. The only thing mine are the remains on the wall.))

First there was this one, 404. Read on…

2. On the same day I posted an account of what I did for my mother’s 60th birthday. One of my better ideas, she says.

A present for mom on another day.

One day, eight years ago, I was ironing. Thinking about my mom’s big anniversary approaching. She is a woman who has taught me so much, not just how to be modest in life. But she’s done that too. I knew that even though she would look pleased, deep down she would not be really happy to receive an expensive gift of any sort. So I had to do a different kind of brainstorming about what I should get her. Read on…

3. Next is the only open letter to a well-known person that I have ever written. I did my best to make sure she gets it, but I have yet to receive a sign that she has read it and knows how much she helped me change my life. Who is she?

Taken in London 2010 and missed by a few days.

Grazie for changing my story

“The only selfish life is a timid one. To hold back, to withdraw, to keep the best in reserve, both overvalues the self, and undervalues what the self is.”

4. One of the first reality checks in Italy came after the visit to the Sistine chapel: we went for a ride and encountered local roadside “attractions”.

My first time in Vatican in 2012.

The aquarium broke

To set the stage: I’m visiting my love for the first time ever. We’re in Roma, it’s the end of August, day three of my stay.

So far we’ve visited Vatican, the basilica, the museum with the Sistine Chapel, the works. It’s been hot, I mean really hot. Read on…

5. Here I talk of my hitchhiking year with Joan Baez on the soundtrack and some surprise guests such as Bill Clinton.

The roadside attractions of my hitchhiking territory. (Photo from last December.)

Jesse, come to LA and live forever, or “I take the diamonds”

The three songs in this post are quite possibly my favourite Joan Baez songs. It was my hitch-hiking, poetry-writing friend who introduced her to me, in the times of road travels down the Adriatic. I remember the time when I had five days to come back so that I could go back in the same direction on holidays with my family. Me and my friend made it all the way to Split, I could have stayed right there. Read on…

6. I was impressed by the concept of ikigai and tried to figure out how to adopt it in my life by way of elimination. See what remained.

The Etruscans are my spirit animals.

This is something that has been troubling me my whole life. I know, I’m a bit old to not have it sorted out yet. Ah, well.

I’ve come across this neat little scheme a while ago. It struck an instant chord. Read on…

7. And finally, we must all use roadside facilities, sometimes with mixed results. Plus there is a song about it.

Nanos above, toilet below. Perfect. (Photo from last December.)

How much is it if I cry?

First a song by a Serbian band that I have translated for the occasion, then a true story, which is how I like them the most. Read on…

No matter how sometimes I feel too lazy to post, I need my blog more than it needs me. Therefore I predict it will continue. I like bursting out in word and photo songs and you give good ears. Thank you.

  1. I’m going on 6 years and I can’t imagine stopping. I think you’re right about needing to blog. It gives me a space to reflect, be creative and connect with people from all over the world. I’m glad I met you. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, Carol. I have saved the post where I stopped following you regularly and one day I shall resume. 🙂 I’m cyclical like that, but do my best to be methodical. Oh, 6 years! Good going! I hope all is well in your family and looking forward to catch up.

    1. Okay, SMSW, buona notte! 🙂 But it might be that you have read them all yet. You were one of the first and for sure my most methodical follower. Thank you so much for this!! ❤ And bestia will be 5 years old on the 8th of April, you can congratulate him then. 😉

  2. Have you actually run out of space on your blogs and that’s why you start new ones? I think I am right at four years also. Then again, I post every few weeks and you do more than one a week, I think! Congrats on keeping the blog(s) alive so long!

    1. Yes, both times I filled up the free space and I preferred to start anew with a new theme than pay. I understand that we get three blogs for free per one user. When this one is full I don’t know what I’ll do. I used to post almost 20 photos daily but now am lazier by the day. Congrats to you too! Just earlier WordPress sent their congrats so it’s official. I guess they will tell you when it’s four years for you as well.

      1. You might try resizing your photos…to take up less space (mb’s) on your site. There’s also an app or program that does this for you, keeps quality but not mb’s.

        1. Yes, I’ve thought this too. I’ve been blogging since 2013 and still on my first blog for art, which is the one with the most photos. I use PhotoShop Elements 15. OK, End of advice. And! Happy ‘Versery and I count it a very good day when I stumbled into your neighborhood and you welcomed me.

        2. Thank you, Claudia, but all the nice words you’ve ever given me. It sounds incredible that you’ve had your art blog for a such a long time. Free scheme too? I don’t have PhotoShop but I should look into it. Happy Easter from Rome!

        3. Happy Easter to you, yes, I am free scheme as well on the blogs. Although I would pay, at this point, I am addicted. Anyway, I use PhotoShop Elements 15, not the regular PhotoShop, I don’t need all the additions of the latter for what I do – I’ve been very happy with PSE and managing my photo editing that way.

        4. Thank you. I know what to search for then. I do manage my photos already. I reduce their size from about 4 MB to about 800 KB-1 MB. I like it that people are able to click on them and see them up close.

        5. You can always change your theme at any time (without being forced). If you have a Mac you can simply reduce the size when you open it in “Preview” (in the toolbox). PC’s must have a similar function.

        6. No Mac in the house but I see what you’re saying. I don’t like changing themes after a whole bunch of posts have already been posted. Everything changes.

But tell me – is the time ripe for the first Badfish post of 2018? Or they don’t let you?

  4. Congratulations on your blogoversary!

There’s nothing quite like finding a treasure trove of old posts to read on a long week-end, so thanks for linking back to some posts of significance 😀
Perhaps I’ll browse around and read some more later!
