Thursday Doors, 1/2/18: Ljubljana

Here is the hot and cold, good and bad, day and night, fancy and punk that is Ljubljana and its doors.

But first an urgent notice: I cannot comment! 😮 On other people’s blogs, that is, on my own I can.

This is not exactly true either: out of eight blogs or so where I tried to comment in the last 13 hours (well, most of this time I was sleeping), there is only one that shows my comments as they happen. All other blogs seem to swallow my words!

(If you have chosen the option to approve each comment manually, it usually says that the comment waits for approval. Now it doesn’t say a thing, my comment just vanishes.)

I give you the winner: it’s Dan at No Facilities. Only there I’m allowed to comment, so far! Investigation is in course.

In the meantime, I ask Norm and Joanne to please go and see if my comments to their Thursday Doors went to spam, but I’m afraid they haven’t. It’s more wicked than that. If you’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean they are not after you. 😮

Today’s doors follow this state of mind: something good, followed by something bad, but what if it’s good, but what if it’s bad. Ljubljana, Slovenia, in a nutshell.

ADD-IT: After a brief chat with a couple of Akismet engineers and some tweaks that they made in record time, now it appears to be back to normal. If you have any problems whatsoever, try it, the WordPress help function often delivers.

I told you about this shop. They sell doors and were not accommodating to a blogger. This is the only photo I could snap before being interrogated. The sign says “Close the door” and so I did.

World Trade Center. A woman trapped in a glass cage.

A bar opposite. There is a lovely green door and sunflowers. But there are ugly butts! But it says “Enjoy life” on little ashtrays. But it says “You choose” on the big one. I choose the water bowl.

It’s a lovely door. But it’s night! But I’ll return in the daytime! No, you won’t.

There will be a concert. But it’s still early! Wait a minute. My heel is killing me! But I must go, parents are waiting!

It’s a door like millions of others. But it’s not, it’s cool! But it’s worn and old. But that’s why it’s cool!

But why did you go in a tourist shop? But it was hot.

The home of first Slovenian female lyricist Lili Novy. That’s her bust. But she’s dead!

Angels. But it’s tacky! But it’s a lovely wood colour!

My eyes came here to rest. Finally something I can feel. But this is ugly! Says who? What if all the rest is ugly?

Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Ljubljana. But Slovenia gives less and less money for culture!

A fun entrance. But it’s tagged!

Slovenian Philharmonic Hall. But it has so many problems with the management.

What now? Another eye rest? No, but it’s funny how this door is next to an uber fancy store. And neither can do a thing about it.

A truly lovely corner on Miklošičeva Street. But they are naked!

This could be in Rome. But all the rest around is ugly!

A supermarket chain has too much money. But it’s pretty! But it’s exaggerated, they better offer better fruit and vegetables instead.

Door craze in another shop. But it’s pretty! Yeah, in a “don’t disturb” sense.

I would never take this photo but we parked near and had to pass it. This is my high school and it doesn’t deserve a better photo. The circle says: NON SCHOLAE, SED VITAE (DISCIMUS). We learn for life, not for school. Right…

The saddest of them all. Celica hostel in a former military prison in Metelkova City is closed. One thing that was making Ljubljana proud. They say it’s just a renovation but will not continue under the same management. Every room is painted by a different artist. Surely they won’t renovate that??
